Vern Rollin III was born in Key West, Florida. He grew up in Florida, California and Texas. His passion for art was apparent from his earliest years. Natural gifts and sensitivity to the world around him have played the largest role in his success as an artist. While schooling and instruction from noteworthy artist expanded his knowledge of Art, Art History and technical information, Vern feels the greatest achievements are made when you create from inner feeling, emotion and respect for your vision, your gifts, and your craft.
Vern began his professional career as an artist in 1988, creating Abstract Paintings, original Landscapes and Mixed Media constructions. His work is a reflection of his love of nature, and his lifelong journey in pursuit of harmony and balance. Having traveled extensively, his work has been heavily influenced by his journey through life, the places he has seen and the people he has met along the way. Music plays a key role in driving the imagination that is the force behind his work.
A true visionary artist, Vern has won multiple awards as a Painter and Mixed Media artist. He believes that growth can only be achieved by continual change and a desire to constantly improve.
"I create each painting to be felt and enjoyed for a long time. My collectors honor me when they buy a piece of my work and knowing that they have chosen one of my paintings to become a part of their home, or business pushes me continually to grow as an artist and as a person. I have been a fine artist for thirty years. My work is a record o my journey and of my love and observation of the world close up. I learned to paint on the land itself by watching the play of sunlight through trees and across fields. Thousands of hours in nature, hiking, painting,, studying, and learning. have shaped me into the artist I am today. Painting is not my work. It is my life. It is my reason for being. I paint to reach beyond my life, to communicate in a way that is real and with no illusions. Sharing this is my passion and it it as necessary as breathing," Vern explains.
Vern currently lives and works in the quiet countryside of Poetry, Texas.
""Closer to the Edge
Acrylic, Plaster, Conte on Canvas
36" x 24"
$ 1795
This painting is very textural with great depth when viewed in person. I highlight the texture to make it stand out against the background. The overall effect is subtle and beautiful. All of my paintings are on reinforced Gallery Wrapped Canvas complete with hanging wire attached and are ready to hang. They are all signed and dated on the back.
Each reinforced canvas is primed with Gesso. I then apply thin layers of Texture Medium to develop an interesting surface. This surface is created to achieve an harmonious balance between color, texture and image. I sometimes impress the texture with wooden stamps that I make or pull specially constructed implements through the texture to create my desired effect. I then apply color with Acrylic, stain, powdered pigment and/or ink. The surface is lightly sanded and more color is applied. This process of addition and subtraction is repeated many times until I have captured the image I want.

Serenity

August on the Land
Acrylic, Plaster on Canvas
20" X 20"
$ 965
The canvas was textured with two textural swaths side by side and then finished in warm colors. The inspiration here was August in Texas. I drew heavily from my imagination trying to capture the feeling of the August heat using color and texture. The cracks are symbolic of the land during dry years. There are the smallest suggestions of Aqua in areas to suggest, hopefully, rain later in the year. There is a certain beauty and feeling that comes with summer in Texas. I tried to suggest this throughout this work.
Ancient Whispers
Acrylic on Canvas
18” x 24”
$995
A Gallery Wrap canvas with a highly textured surface. I created the surface to appear weathered and ancient using rich earth tones and texture to mimic the ripples in the sand along a beach and the cracks that form in the earth along a riverbank.
Primal Elements
Acrylic on Canvas
20" x 20"
$ 945
A Gallery Wrapped canvas textured with purpose to create a backdrop representing the four elements. Earth, Air, Fire and Water. Acrylic paint, charcoal and ink were used to enhance the textural image. :: Painting :: Abstract :: This piece comes with an official certificate of authenticity signed by the artist
Urban Shadows
Acrylic, Gesso, Charcoal, Plaster on Canvas, Wood
30" x 40"
$ 2765
I have always had a fascination for old and weathered surfaces. Particularly old buildings. They hold the history of the life that has been lived there in their scarred walls. There is a beauty in the accumulated years and how they change the surfaces from season to season, like Fall to Winter and beyond. This painting is on a double reinforced Gallery Wrapped canvas, and is signed and ready to hang upon arrival. The surface of the canvas was textured with Texture medium and then many layers of paint were applied, sanded and distressed before I was satisfied with the result. It was then given a coat of varnish to protect it from dust, moisture and the effects of time.

Mojave Gold
Acrylic on Canvas, 2019
30 " x 24"
$ 1695
A deeply textural Original painting on a 1.5" Gallery Wrapped canvas. Ready to hang. The inspiration for this painting was the Mojave desert seen from above. So much of the earth is beautiful when seen from a great height. I used warm colors to suggest the heat that is such a tangible force there. It got my full attention when I crossed the Mojave by car a few years back.
